Bay Area: Mori Point

A few weeks ago, we decided to check out Mori Point in Pacifica, CA. It boasts a gorgeous hike right along the coast south of San Francisco, and a friend had mentioned it was kid-friendly (a friend who was sadly out of town; we need to go back!).

I couldn't find a ton of info on taking a stroller along. It seemed like part of it would be fine, but not all, so I decided to leave the stroller behind and I'm glad I did. A stroller with bigger wheels (e.g., a jogging stroller) would tolerate the path from the Mori Point parking lot in (and it's paved as you walk along the water), but there's a beautiful viewpoint up a hill that has steps. That was the best part of the hike so I'm glad we didn't miss out on that.

The walk in was perhaps 3/4 to 1 mile total. At the end, you're rewarded with beautiful ocean and cliff views. From there, you can head up the steps to the top of a cliff and get an incredible view on both sides of beaches, oceans, and more steep drops into the water.

The hike was very doable for all my kiddos, including my 3 year old (with the baby in the carrier). There was lots of pretty sea glass up at the top of the cliff and the kids had a blast picking out all their favorite colors.

You can certainly continue down the path that parallels the ocean, but we just went down a little ways, turned back to go up the cliff, then headed back to the (tiny) parking lot. After that, we stopped at the cute little Saltwater Bakery, which had surprisingly tasty gluten-free/vegan treats (typically I'm highly suspicious of "healthy" treats - I'm of the go big or go home mindset - but the pumpkin bread was very well done). The hot chocolate, on the other hand, was terrible (even with regular milk), so avoid that.

Overall, it was a perfect kid hike with an amazing backdrop and interesting for kids and adults. We can't wait to go back!
